Damavand, rising 5,610 metres above the Alborz range, is Iran’s highest peak and a powerful symbol in Persian mythology, poetry and literature, representing endurance, resistance and freedom. For Bijan Daneshmand, Damavand is also an enduring image of home and childhood memories. Its monumental form, colours and serene presence provide the starting point for an ongoing exploration of memory, identity and belonging.
Since 2020, Bijan has developed a series of paintings, drawings and sculptures _inspired by his childhood memories of Tehran_ exploring repetition and difference. Working across diverse materials ,the works distil the mountain into a recurring, deeply personal image.
